GF Dinner Rolls-Buns

It is often said that you are what you eat. Really, you are what you absorb! Nourishing, nutrient dense food should be a part of our every day life. Having a healthy gut allows you to absorb that nutrition and give your body the tools to heal well and function well. This meal comes inclusive of working towards both.

Grassfed burger is the best. It is loaded with the right balance of omega-3 fats, less overall fat but more of the healthy fats. Eating gluten free reduces inflammation. Choose non GMO, chemical free flours to create this dinner roll-bun. Fermented coleslaw as a side, fermented ketchup, brine based mayo, a glass of a fermented beverage or just some of your favorite kraut blend sandwiched between the burger and bun gives extra bioavailable vitamins and essential enzymes. Prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics in the ferments you consume help support that gut health. You can find a lot of great ferment recipes on our blog! Feel free to ask any questions or for additional recipes!

Healthy food does not have to be boring! It can taste amazing!

Gluten Free Dinner Roll- Hamburger Bun Recipe

  • Two cups of lukewarm milk, milk alternative or water

  • 1 Envelope of Instant Yeast or 2 1/4 tsp of bulk yeast

  • 2 Tablespoons of honey, cane juice, coconut sugar or sucanut

  • 3 1/2 cups of GF flour (we used Bob's Red Mill 1:1 GF flour mix)

  • 8 Tablespoons of melted and cooled butter

  • 1 extra large egg

  • 1/2 Teaspoons of salt

Oven: Grease a 8x8 glass pan.

Crockpot: Grease your inner crock with butter or line your crockpot with parchment paper. Do not preheat.

Mix the yeast, warm water/milk and sweetener in a glass bowl or measuring cup. Set aside for 5 minutes.

In a separate bowl place the flour. Make a hole in the center and add the butter and egg. Beat the egg. Add the yeast mixture. Mix well. Form into approximately 10 round balls. Place into your glass pan or your crock.

Oven: Allow the dough balls to rise for approximately 30 minutes in a warm, draft free place. Once they are doubled in size, bake at 375 for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Crockpot: The lower temperature does not require a rise time! Turn the crockpot on HIGH and bake for approximately 1 1/2 hours or until golden brown.

Yields: 10 rolls or slider type buns

*Add 2 1/2 tsp of xanthum gum if your flour mix does not contain it. We have often used the Red Bag of Bob's Red Mill GF Mix and added our own xanthum gum. That makes this recipe grain free.
